Assessments

Scantron Performance Series

The Archdiocese of Washington uses Scantron as a performance series adaptive, computer-based standardized test. The assessment is administered to students in grades two through eight.

  • Reduces testing time by more than half and avoids test-taker fatigue
  • Adjusts to each student’s ability
  • Provides valuable information quickly so teachers can adapt instruction as needed
  • Produces easy-to-read, detailed reports
  • Records progress over time to aid in making decisions about tutoring, enrichment and
remediation programs that may benefit your student

Reporting to Parents

Parents and teachers are able to monitor student performance from a baseline score measured during fall testing to the end of the year score measured at spring testing. Parents receive testing reports in a clear and simple format. The information includes:

  • Ranking with peers in a national norm group
  • Ability independent of grade level
  • Projected performance on grade level performance standards
  • Improvement in performance over time
  • Silent reading rate
  • Level of reading on the Lexile Scale that helps you to select appropriate books at libraries or bookstores

High School Placement Test (HSPT)

For 8th grade students interested in applying to a Catholic high school, a placement test is required unless otherwise indicated by the high school.

The HSPT is administered to 8th grade students at Holy Redeemer School on the first Wednesday in December during the regular school day.

Registration:

In order for your child to take the HSPT, you must register for the test online. A copy of your registration confirmation and the Authorization to Release Records must be given to The 8th grade teacher the Friday before the HSPT testing date.

Registration for the HSPT opens the beginning of September and closes the end of October.

Pre-High School Placement Test (Pre-HSPT)

We actively prepare our seventh grade for entrance into their eighth grade year here at Holy Redeemer School. This is the time to start preparing the students for admittance to high school.
College Preparatory High Schools nationwide use the High School Placement Test (HSPT) to assist with admissions, scholarship selection, and curriculum placement. The HSPT is a comprehensive placement test, taken during the student’s eighth grade school year.
In order to best serve our students, we will be administering the Pre-HSPT to our seventh graders. The Pre-HSPT is recommended in order to give the seventh grade students a preview of the test they will be taking. The scoring of the Pre-HSPT will be completed through the Scholastic Testing Service, Inc. and reports will be sent to the school. These reports will allow teachers, students and parents to review essential material to better prepare before the test next school year.

Faith Knowledge Assessment

Each spring, the Faith Knowledge Assessment (FKA) is administered to students in grades 3-8. FKA is a norm-referenced computer-based assessment on archdiocesan religion standards and is aligned to the Forming Disciples for the New Evangelization Standards and Curriculum. It measures what students know, understand, and are able to model at each grade level.
